Zechlin, Ruth (1926-)
German. Educated at the Leipzig School of Music. Zechlin's musical style is clearly aiming to achieve something new. Her early works develop along linear lines, using free tonal harmony. A most complex work, Metamorphosen (1982) using the pitch of a single note, which emerges and developes into a 12 part canon. Much of her output are instrumental chamber pieces, stage works, keyboard works and vocal settings.
