Born in Zimbabwe but living and performing in South Africa from an early age, Dorothy was one of the Skylarks with Miriam Makeba but developed her own songs with strong political themes of criticism and protest. Her music was banned and she was in exile for 31 years, mainly in the United States and Zambia, returning to South Africa in 1992.
