Lutyens, Elizabeth (1906-1983)
English composer born into an artistic family, daughter of the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Educated at the Royal College of Music she gained an interest in serialism. Her first works use this method, making her one of the first British composers to exploit the technique. She produced a number of orchestral and chamber pieces, operas and many songs as well as teaching. Her dissonant harmony infuses energy and surprises.
