Strozzi, Barbara (1619-1664 c.)
Italian composer and singer. Her first works were Madrigals (1644), a genre she wrote much for, along with motets, arias and cantatas. Attractive melodies infuse all her works; a firm Seconda Prattica can be identified in her vocal music. A distinctive characteristic is the dovetailing between melody and bass line. The shorter compositions employ frequent changes of meter, propelling the music forward.
