Schumann, Clara (1819-1896)
German composer. She had an amazing musical career, being fortunate in that her husband encouraged her work. After his death she edited his work. Her works were published and received many complimentary remarks. Her output includes many piano works, songs and chamber works. Schumann understood the form of the sonata perfectly, creating a wonderful sense of balance, with gentle melodies and a lively polyphony.
