de la Guerre, Elisabeth Claude Jacquet (1666-1729)
French. Her first works appeared in 1685 and were pastoral stage works. These were followed in 1687 by her first harpsichord works, which show a talent for complex melodies and fugue but with a light texture. Cephale et Procis (1694) a tragedy in five acts was her first opera with its premiere at the Academie Royale de Musique. Her works were some of the first in France to absorb the Italian influence for clarity and grace.
