  Beamish, Sally (1956-)

Born in London. She studied violin and viola at the RNCM. Her first commission for a work was Dances and Nocturnes (1986). 1994 saw her Violin Concerto, with the theme of war. This has a fluid musical style like many of her works. Her music is colourful and inspirational and she is a leading composer today, most recently having been commissioned to write Knotgrass Elegy for the BBC Proms 2001. Sally will be at the Chard Foundation Hotbed 2002 for women composers and musicians, See news page.
