  Ottaway, Helen

Helen studied music at the University of London, Goldsmith's College, from 1976-1979 since when she has been involved in the performance and composition of systems-based tonal music. Founder member of the new music group "Regular Music". In 1989 she set up "3 or 4 Composers", producing music theatre pieces on the theme of the drowned city of Dunwich in Suffolk. Helen's commissions have included work for Nottinghamshire and for Salisbury Cathedral. Her music was used for the BBC2 film series "The River". In 2002 she was composer in residence for In Praise of Trees, a major arts project in association with the Salisbury Festival and this year she is composer for the Opera Room a new project launching at the Cheltenham Festival July 8-11th. Round and Round

Set of 12 superb quality cards with paintings by Barry Cooper (photographs by Angela Coombes)on the circle as a form . The CD has Helen's piano compositions in reponse to the paintings, also taking the circle for their structure and creating their own choreography. Produced for Artmusic, which promotes collaborations between artists in different disciplines.

Five Laments for voice and violin. The pieces represent five walks around "Lacrymae", an installation activated by movement, created by Rowena Pearce (artist) , Helen Ottaway (composer) and Alastair Goolden (sound designer).
